In Fall 2014 a grant was awarded to Jane Johnson, Lydia Bishop, and Shelley Rasco to purchase books for reading intervention time. As Jane Johnson put it "Thanks to APEF, our classroom shelves are filled with stories of courage, empathy, and perseverance in the face of adversity. True stories of Desmond Tutu, Jane Goodall, Harriet Tubman, Teddy Roosevelt, etc. now reside in our room.Stories of the Chinese Cultural Revolution and life under the Taliban are inspiring our kids to value the freedom we have. Our lunch time book clubs are loving these stories!" There are currently nine reading intervention groups and they hope to expand!
Check out all the books our teachers were able to get for their Reading Intervention Groups.
