Name of Grant: Our Town

Third grade students toured Athens and discovered how their community works.  They learned more about city government and services that are vital to the community.  Another goal of this project was to forge stronger relationships between the school and the community.

Name of Grant: Science Spectacular
Campus: Bel Air, South Athens, Athens Intermediate
Teacher: Deidre Pool, Sharron Bankhead
Amount: $3,000

Earth Science library books were purchased for grades L-3.  Students then created science projects to display the information they had learned.  A science fair was held to evaluate the project.

Name of Grant: Nature and Science Museum Field Trip
Campus: Athens Intermediate
Teacher: Scott Williams
Amount: $2,700

The goal of this grant was to give Fifth grade students a better understanding of the world by visiting the Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas.  This museum utilizes unique resources and hands on learning.  Some of these students had never been to a museum before.

Campus: South Athens
Teacher: Sunni Starkes, Linda Mazzanti
Amount: $3,000

This grant is for a Science Resource Lab for grades 1-2.  The materials will help in teaching about the Earth, Physical and Life science.  The materials will be on notebook computers and will be used in the classroom for student use.
